Message from our Head

heather_tarrantWelcome to the Brocklewood Primary School website

At Brocklewood we “imagine, believe, achieve”. We are ambitious for the children and families of Brocklewood and encourage them to dream big; have confidence in themselves and their dreams and provide them with the resilience and skills to achieve those dreams.

We believe that the community deserves excellence and are continuously striving to achieve this. We are definitely on an improvement journey which can be evidenced from our recent reviews.

“The strong relationships that exist between staff and pupils help pupils to feel safe. Pupils’ behaviour and their engagement in lessons has a positive impact on their learning and progress. They collaborate purposefully and respectfully with their peers. Pupils know what they are expected to do and can talk about their learning.”

“The proportions of pupils reaching a good level of development by the end of the EYFS  has shown a sustained trend of improvement over the last three years. The proportion of pupils reaching the expected standard in the Year 1 phonics screening check also shows a sustained trend of improvement over the past three years. While 2016 results were below national average overall, a higher proportion of disadvantaged pupils than seen nationally achieved the standard.  (Challenge Partners review November 2016)

The Challenge Partners review in November also agreed that “Securing improvements in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision” is an area of excellence at Brocklewood; this designation remains in place for three years.

“The school has a very robust improvement plan; it identifies correctly the priorities for improvement, timelines are manageable and aspiration high.”

“The school recognises that there must be an unrelenting focus on ensuring consistently high quality teaching across all year groups in all subjects, particularly in reading, writing and maths. The self-evaluation is well written and judgements are accurate.”

“SEND provision is well managed both operationally, supporting pupils and teachers with everyday classroom practice, and strategically, evaluating the effectiveness and impact of strategies and approaches to SEND across the school.” (Sally Manz, School Improvement Advisor November 2016)

In our most recent School ‘Health Check’, it was reported that:

“Pupil’s behaviour and conduct are impressive. Pupils report that’s they feel safe and secure in school. They feel cared for and are confident that any poor behaviour is confidently dealt with. Poor behaviour is rare. Pupils speak very positively about that school. All of this promotes a calm, orderly atmosphere in school.”

There is much to celebrate at Brocklewood including improved academic results, improvements in attendance levels, our wonderful choir, the fantastic sports teams, our amazing art work with our artist in residence, our fabulous musicians performing at various venues in the City, our Eco Council, our Learning Council, completing the Sherriff’s challenge…. The list goes on!

Please enjoy browsing our website and seeing some of our fantastic children’s achievements.
