Brocklewood Primary and Nursery School

Imagine. Believe. Achieve.

Our Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At Brocklewood we “imagine, believe, achieve”. We are ambitious and encourage our children to fulfil their potential by dreaming big and having confidence in themselves.

At our school we provide pupils with a curriculum that is relevant for them, as children growing up in the local community. We are preparing our pupils to be 21st Century citizens who contribute positively to local, national and global communities. We believe that global learning helps pupils make sense of the increasingly complex and rapidly changing world in which they live. Literacy skills are integral to enabling our pupils to access the curriculum.

Our curriculum is carefully designed to enable pupils to think critically about world issues and to develop an awareness of the impact our own actions can have on others.

Curriculum Implementation

Knowledge, skills and attitudes are built through our six themes:
·Identity and Diversity
·Sustainable Development
·Rights and Responsibility
·Health and Wellbeing
·Peace and Conflict
·Social Justice and Equity

Each year the themes are taught through a different learning focus which are steered by five curriculum drivers alongside English, Maths and Science:
·Enquiry
·Enterprise
·The Arts
·Technology
·Wellbeing

Our curriculum connects to real life, promotes thinking as a global citizen and develops the character skills so that young people can make meaningful contributions to society. It is designed to enable children to invest in learning and to make deep connections between learning and understanding the world they live in.

At Brocklewood, we provide pupils with a knowledge rich curriculum. Our carefully chosen content places core knowledge at the heart of each curriculum subject. Key knowledge is mapped and sequenced. Core knowledge is drawn from the National Curriculum, and within discrete subjects, categories of knowledge are identified to ensure broad coverage and progression across each year group.  The subjects are sequenced carefully to ensure that all children receive their full entitlement to our ambitious curriculum content.
