Brocklewood Primary and Nursery School

Imagine. Believe. Achieve.

Music

Music Intent

Brocklewood’s music curriculum is embedded and built on the National Curriculum ensuring a deep understanding of music, in partnership with Nottingham Music Hub and talented musicians. It is structured with a knowledge progression map that ensures a progression of knowledge and skills, allowing children to build on previous knowledge and connect to other learning.

Through the teaching and learning of music, we hope to develop a lifelong passion which encompasses a desire to explore, broaden horizons and realise individual aspirations. Music is a universal language that can nurture creativity, engagement across the entire curriculum, increase self-esteem. Along with the aforementioned, music should also aim to develop an ability to experiment, critically engage with music, understand composition and develop listening skills which enable an appreciation across a range of musical genres.

The children shall be taught to know how to:

• Use their voices expressively in singing as part of lessons and signing assembly and community-based events.

• Play un-tuned and tuned instruments (working closely with Nottingham Music Service who support both our teaching and learning and enrichment through Nottingham Music Hub/ Area Band).
